Another Cub from 2010 found it's way to our door. The young animal weight in at only 18lb (50 - 85 lb would be normal) and was dragging it's hind legs. Found in Lillooet it was hard for us to determine if the cub would survive the long journey to us. Thankfully the Cache Creek Veterinarian offered to give it the once over and to our relive found nothing wrong other then that it needed some food desperately. Within 3 days the cub was up and about and now he/she is already climbing.

Black bear cub Bob had all of us worried. He arrived 2 month ago and despite gaining weight seemed uninterested and didn't move much. This morning we gave him a sedative and took him to the vet to see if we missed some internal injuries. A through examine and X-rays revealed nothing. Back at the shelter we decided that maybe he just needed company and released him with some of the smaller cubs. He wasted no time and, much to our delight, climbed the fence, showing us that he was just fine. Way to go Bob!

We are getting ready to release our bears this spring. We have much to celebrate with 36 cubs in care, an unprecedented number for BC bear rehab. We just did all the calculations and we will need to travel over 10000 km at an approximated costs of $ 8500.
February 2011
Angelika has attended the National Wildlife Rehabilitation Symposium in Albany NY for the past week and prior to that the Wildlife Rehabilitation Network of BC's Annual general meeting. Both events had great speakers and allowed us to expand our knowledge, thriving to become even better in our quest to rehabilitate BC's wildlife in need. Angelika also presented 20 years of Moose rehabilitation in BC at the Albany symposium.

Thank you to all the people that tooke the time to vote for us during the Pepsi Challange. Unfortunatly we did not make the cut to recive the $ 25000 grant and will need to find the funding for the grizzly postrelease monitoring elsewhere. It was incredible though to see how many people supported our bid for funding, thank you all for your effords!

NLWS has been reinstated as a registered charity!
It is with great joy that we announce that our dispute with the government in regards to our charity status has been settled and we have been reinstated. In the spring of 2009 we lost our charity status, as our tax returns had gone missing. Luckily we had sent everything via registered mail and could prove that the returns had been mailed and received. However, the review process took until now to get us reinstated, rendering us incapable of issuing tax receipts.
A big THANK YOU to all of you that had faith in us and sent donations anyway! We will now issue receipts for funds received and you should receive your receipts in the mail by the end of September, along with our latest newsletter.
