A Story of Loss & Hope

On Dec 8th we where called to Vanderhoof with reports of an emaciated mother bear and two cubs. We made the 3.5hr drive with high hopes to be once again able to help. What we found was not what we imagined, the female bear was extremely emaciated, as was one of her cubs. There was nothing that could be done for them, but to end their suffering. Upon closer examination we discovered that the mamma bear was either partially or totally blind. Both eyes were effected, so that she was likely unable to travel and find food sources for herself and cubs. It was absolutely heartbreaking to see. The remaining cub is now in our care and we will do our best to nurse him back to health.
