Lungo was discovered on the highway between Prince George and Mackenzie. Despite the late hour, the Birchwood Veterinary Clinic kindly opened their doors to assess and treat the injured coyote. Their quick response ensured that Lungo received immediate medical attention. Upon examination, Lungo was found to have suffered a pelvic fracture and a deep cut on his right thigh. Fortunately, the fracture was reasonably well aligned, giving hope for natural healing over time. The initial wound was sutured, but as expected, the gash reopened after a few days. The temporary closure allowed tissue to begin forming in the depth of the wound, which is a positive step in the healing process. Lungo’s injured leg remains warm, indicating healthy blood flow. However, it is still uncertain how severely the muscles, tendons, or nerves may be affected. To support his recovery, Lungo is being cared for with a regimen of antibiotics, pain medication, and diligent wound cleaning. He is also provided with a safe environment and nutritious food to aid his healing. While it is impossible to know at this stage whether these interventions will be sufficient for a full recovery, there is a steadfast sense of hope guiding his care and rehabilitation.
