I don’t even know how to begin this post. We have faced hard times and loss before , but this is way out there. On Monday morning we found 4 of our bears dead in their enclosure and a fifths that showed signs of illness. She also died this morning, despite treatment attempts. All other bears seem totally unaffected so far. Necropsies showed acute liver failure, but no clues as to why. We are now anxiously awaiting lab results. The shelter is under quarantine just to be safe until we get lab results and know what we are dealing with. We are all under shock and devastated. We lost Gimlet (Trail), Stout (Vernon), Kokanee, Bacardi & Mimosa (all from Dawson Creek). We will of course share any updates as soon as they become available.
